EYE film instituut museum Amsterdam 2012
The filmuseum in Vondelpark moved to a new location: EYE Film Instituut Netherlands opened on the northern bank of the IJ. EYE intends to be a gateway to the world of the moving image. The Vienna office of Delugan Meissl Associated Architects has translated this intention into a remarkable design that has been received with enthusiasm by the press and public alike. EYE is the first major arts institution to make the leap over the IJ, and it’s here that the Institute will grow into an inspiring cultural meeting place. EYE’s collection spans the entirety of film history: from silent films dating back to the start of cinema (at the end of the 19th century) to the newest digital productions. Every year the collection expands as more films – Dutch and foreign, new and old – are added.
What’s more, EYE is the only institute in the Netherlands that collects and makes available film-related ephemera: photographs, posters, soundtracks, equipment and filmmakers’ paper archives. The internationally renowned collection forms the basis for EYE’s programming and other activities.
