De Jordaan

This part of Amsterdam is one for your "must visit" list when you come to the city. Anyone who knows me well knows that I love shopping! But the Jordaan has more to offer than just shopping. I honestly think it is one of the most beautiful parts of Amsterdam, and it paints a “typical” Amsterdam image, which you will find when you type "Amsterdam" on Google. Romantic, not only because the nicest man in the world (Marc, my boyfriend) lived there when I met him. But because of the cozy streets, the small houses and the beautiful canals.
The Jordaan is a typical working-class neighborhood. Many workers and artists used to live there, including Rembrandt van Rijn. I will elaborate more about this artist in a later blog. What makes the Jordan special in my opinion is that it still has the meaningful work heart of how the Jordan used to be when my grandmother lived there.

The most famous museum you will find in De Jordaan is perhaps the Anne Frank House. If you would like to go to The Anne Frank House while in Amsterdam, make sure you buy a ticket online, at least one month prior to your visit. It is not possible to buy a ticket at the door, this is really only possible online and through their own website.
Coming back to shopping. The 9 streets, also the mecca for shopaholics, like me. It is picturesquely beautiful to shop there, in the cozy shopping streets, in the middle of the canal belt. From designer boutiques to vintage stores, you will find it all.

If you are an early bird, you will soon discover that there are not many catering establishments in Amsteram open at 08:00. But, don't worry, I know what DOES open. Every day from 08:00 you can go to Cafe Thijssen. To wake up with a cup of coffee, for a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or how about Winkel 43, on Saturdays they are even open from 07:00. They are known for their apple pie. Really something you should taste when you are in Amsterdam. And let these locations be just around the corner from the last two places that I want to share for your "to visit" list. On Saturdays you will find the Lindengracht market, located on the Lindengracht. This market has a very nice atmosphere, you can taste all kinds of delicacies or just stroll around and watch. Finally, there is the Noordermarkt, which can be found at the foot of the Noorderkerk. There is a flea market there on Mondays. Both are very nice to visit!
All of the above can be found within walking distance of our hotel. If you prefer to travel by public transport, it is best to travel by tram 7 (direction Slotermeer) and get off at Elandsgracht. From there it is a short 3 minute walk.
