Will you be driving to Amsterdam? we recommend to park your car in the APCOA Parking Heinekenplein at Eerste van der Helststraat. So during the week this will cost you EUR 15.00 per day and on Saturday and Sunday EUR 20.00, subject to price changes.
The Netherlands is in lockdown again. What does that mean for us? How are we doing? And what are we doing at the moment?
On social media people regularly ask us how we are doing and what we are doing now that there is no work for us. First of all, I would like to say that it feels good that there are so many people who follow our hotel and are happy to hear from us. If there's one thing I've learned in this Covid time, it's that social media is an important factor. It's a good thing that I like the use of social media, so being visible online is no problem in that aspect. Although, in these complicated times I sometimes find it quite difficult to be visible online and to show what is attractive to do in Amsterdam.
How are we doing?
We are actually doing very well. Johan and Irma are baking bread every day and we eat it for lunch. Johan has added a new member to his family; Harvey the dog. I myself am often photographing and making jewelry. To be fair, despite the fact that we are having a great time, all three of us would sign up to be allowed to work today. We miss you, our guests, very much! I myself have discovered again that I feel very privileged to have so much fun in the work that I do. I miss the buzz, the languages, the contact with people. Oh, I am so ready to welcome everyone back to our hotel with open arms!
In addition to having played all the games a hundred times, and having completed all the puzzles in our possession twice, this second lockdown feels very different from the first. All rooms have now been thoroughly cleaned for the third time. And where we first thought that after this major cleaning it would be done with Covid, it now takes a very long time. Because what can still be cleaned when everything is already clean?
Another thing I can't get used to is the silence in the city. And yes, to be fair, as a person I secretly enjoy the peace and quiet on the street. But as a hotelier it breaks my heart. And then our hotel. Our empty hotel. I still think it's so weird. And somehow I am also afraid. Afraid of the silence I've never known in my life. There were always people around me and there were always noises. Now it is just quiet.
Despite the above, we remain positive. I mean, I have my mother and my little brother, who I can see every day. That's more than a lot of other people can say about life right now. So in that aspect I am very lucky and I really have nothing to complain about!
